The Director of Life Safety Compliance and Support leads a team of professional subject matter experts that ensure the compliance of policies, procedures, processes, and training in supporting the Facility Management Operating System (FMOS) for Medxcel Facilities Management’s operations and the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code© across the United States.  The position holds the primary responsibility in providing the support and assuring, through the support of SME’s, those policies, procedures and protocols, Fire and Life Safety code and regulations, that enables standardization, optimization and life safety compliance of facility operations.  The Director will lead the support of Medxcel FM’s Life Safety Regulatory Compliance Program.

 

The Director is responsible for providing SME support to the Vice President of Program Development and Facilities Compliance and lateral support to the Director of Facility Compliance and Support in assessing, updating and maintaining the Life Safety portions of the Current State Health Assessment (CSHA) model for Medxcel FM healthcare facilities.  In addition to the CSHA, the Director will develop, manage and actively participate in a Life Safety Assessment process and program that will establish a baseline life safety compliance assessment and annual validation assessments for Medxcel FM operations, fire and life safety protective features assets, compliance of the Joint Commission’s Physical Environment, CMS Codes of Participation, Accreditation Organizations and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction programs.  The assessment will include operational status, life safety assessment/Statement of Conditions, fire safety evaluation systems, the Joint Commission’s Physical Environment compliance reviews, and Life Safety Building Maintenance Programs (BMP), and other requirements as determined by the Referenced Publications of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code©. Duties may include compliance support for building design from a Life Safety standpoint. Compliance is ensured and maintained by SME’s through the Director with direct reporting to the Vice President.

 

The Director provides leadership, support and programs for the Life Safety Code Specialist-Managers to ensure a smooth transition from a client/customer based facility operation system to Medxcel FM’s Facility Management Operating Systems (FMOS) and Life Safety Code compliance program. 

Responsibilities

National Innovation and Strategy Management

  • Provide effective leadership in the support of Medxcel Facilities’ platform of operations and compliance programs in meeting the requirements for the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 101-Life Safety Code, The Joint Commission’s (TJC)-Physical Environment: Life Safety, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), OSHA, state and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
  • Work effectively with Medxcel Facilities executives and other leaders to drive business innovation, service strategies, revenue growth, and continuous improvement processes at the national level to ensure service excellence.
  • Provide the support and leadership to a team of subject matter experts that evaluates Life Safety Code compliance and the Facility Management Operating System (FMOS) which provides the following processes: Accreditation Organizations survey process, assessment and reporting of the level of compliance for Medxcel FM  facilities as it applies to the Life Safety Code, facilities consolidation and/or modification of existing programs and documents, standardization  of operational and compliance programs across all Medxcel FM operations,  and optimization to solidify a level of operational excellence.
  • Lead the Facilities-Life Safety Code Compliance Team to update, assess and maintain the Current State Health Assessment (CSHA) program, establishing a baseline and annual update/validation compliance assessment for FM healthcare facilities and the local Authority having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Manage and support the team of Life Safety Code Specialist Managers to ensure operational and regulatory compliance at the facility level.
  • Assist Medxcel Facilities’ team to identify operational and financial opportunities within the organization’s Engineering/Facility departments.
  • Support and maintain operating protocols for Emergency Management, Safety, and Life and Fire Safety systems.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the support in Life Safety standardization and compliance of Medxcel Facilities’ Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) - CMS.
  • Assist on-site and regional leadership in achieving high performance through the support and execution of controls designed to allow leadership to meet service delivery objectives and create high customer satisfaction.
  • Perform in-depth quality reviews of site operations, using the tools provided by Medxcel Facilities, and establish on-going plans, goals, and objectives, to correct deficiencies and improve performance.
  • Participate in the establishment and approval of training, staffing, and resource plans and monitor performance relative to such plans.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Create, support and maintain assessment and measurement tools that allow exceptional customer relationship.
  • Collaborate with Medxcel Facilities’ team to create and deliver Life Safety Code training programs for engineering leadership and associates.
  • Assist and support on-site leadership with identifying and implementing cost reduction opportunities
  • Conduct periodic business and compliance reviews with customers.
  • Assist on-site management with ensuring the customer’s program understanding, customer satisfaction, strategic partnering, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop and nurture key customer relationships to create a high degree of loyalty to Medxcel Facilities in addition to local operations.
  • Be visible and available to key customer leadership during frequent site visits.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or management required (or equivalent experience 15 years with no degree)
  • MBA and graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in healthcare facilities management or field management in healthcare facilities setting
  • Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) and/or Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) certification 
  • NFPA Certified Life Safety Specialist (CLSS-HC) for Health Care Facility Managers or the ability to obtain certificate within 12 months from date of hire (Preferred)
  • Strategic capability in financial planning, resource allocation, analysis and business process development and improvement
  • Experience in leading and supporting healthcare organizations in their efforts towards regulatory compliance and operational excellence
  • Experience in developing service and training programs, with an emphasis on TJC, CMS and engineering systems
  • Project management skills including coordination, communication, prioritization, troubleshooting, adherence to budget and completion goals, and recruiting resources
  • Experience with Auto CAD or other related digital drawing tools (preferred)
  • Travel: 60 - 80% (overnight required)

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code© (2012 Edition) and the referenced publications associated with the  Life Safety Code© requirements
  • Experience in engineering, fire protection, building maintenance, building constructions, architectural science, safety or related (highly desired)
  • Strategic leadership skills to execute initiatives and objectives
