The Controls/HVAC Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of facility operations data for Medxcel Facilities Management from the Remote Operations Center (ROC) in St. Louis, MO.  Using data from Medxcel FM’s advanced building analytics platform, “Vantage,” the Analyst will analyze digital HVAC and power plant operating data and interact daily with field operations personnel, control vendors, and engineering consultants to assess, troubleshoot, and dispatch corrective action for less-than-optimal operating conditions.  The Analyst will be an integral part of the Remote Operations team in providing ever-increasing value to local Medxcel FM operations, driving continuously improving facility efficiency and operational excellence.  


This is not a home-based opportunity. Candidates must be able to work onsite at the ROC facility.



Operational Management:

  • Monitor key performance indicators relating to comfort, compliance, and energy efficiency as a measure of a facility’s overall dynamic performance for an annual utility portfolio of over $160M across more than 50M square feet of acute-care health care space.
  • Remotely monitor and analyze building automation system and building analytics data for Medxcel FM managed facilities from the Remote Operations Center in St. Louis, MO.
  • Analyze and interpret automatic fault detection and BAS data leading to troubleshooting system anomalies and recommending corrective action to field operations personnel.
  • Analyze building energy consumption and trends, identify causes of excess consumption, and support the implementation of corrective action
  • Work collaboratively with other Remote Operations Center Analysts, Medxcel FM operations personnel, building controls vendors, and engineering consultants to identify and troubleshoot building operations issues leading to energy savings and continuously improving building performance.
  • Lead the recommendation and development of advanced automatic fault detection algorithms, as appropriate, for detecting building system performance issues.
  • Develop and maintain documented processes for initiating and tracking operational remediation activities. 
  • Support retro-commissioning and on-going commissioning efforts.
  • Provide leadership in the ongoing support and development of the Vantage building analytics portal. 

Coaching and Development:

  • Collaborate with and coach other engineers with respect to establishing best practices and future analytics capabilities.
  • Provide coaching for Medxcel FM field operations staff across the nation with respect to system troubleshooting and improved operational practices.
  • Provide direction for the on-going development of the analytics platform and strategic direction of the program.
  • Assist in developing strategic training initiatives equipping field personnel with knowledge and tools for improved operational skill.
  • Mentor and encourage existing and future field operations talent in the areas of problem solving, inspire ever-improving performance, and enable field operations to succeed.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical engineering or Associates Degree in HVAC/Controls plus equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience in healthcare HVAC and central plant operating principles, DDC building automation system control fundamentals, HVAC control sequences, and BAS data analysis preferred.
  • Solid understanding of healthcare facility operations, processes, and procedures with a strong emphasis on customer service.
  • Experience in Commissioning and Retro-commissioning practices.
  • Familiarity with advanced building analytics and automatic fault detection.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of energy management.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is a plus.
  • Diverse experience with BAS programming strongly desired.
  • Travel – occasional (overnight required).

  • Excellent leadership skills, including the coaching of other analysts and field operations personnel.
  • Working knowledge of hospital operations and control of the physical environment.
  • Working knowledge of medical facility systems and equipment.
