    The Mechanical Engineer performs the engineering responsibilities for Medxcel Facilities Management remotely and at the assigned working location of PDC St. Louis in St. Louis, MO.  Works closely with senior leadership to collect engineering best practices and research strategies to optimize the engineering design of Ascension healthcare facilities.  Develops data-driven solutions to complex design problems. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for delivering detailed analytical concepts and will be expected to take a project from the conceptual stage through to completion, while taking into account budgeting and operational considerations.  Responsibilities include all aspects of mechanical design and consulting. The Mechanical Engineer must be self-motivated to design, engineer and/or manage HVAC and mechanical systems for projects including new installations, system retrofits, system replacement, and system upgrades. Engineering work requires oversight and/or implementation of the following: energy and load calculations, flow and pressure calculations, equipment selection, equipment specification, system design and layout, field investigation, and construction administration.



    • Consults with leadership to determine functional and design requirements for new construction or renovations
    • Prepares information regarding design standards, specifications, materials, equipment costs, and construction time
    • Researches, plans, designs, and maintains code and regulatory compliance for building standards
    • Oversees the work of engineers and equipment suppliers
    • Maintains the Medxcel Design and Construction Standards for engineering
    • Reviews technical documents including drawings and specifications for correct implementation of Standards and to develop high performance design
    • Maintains building commissioning and building automation standards
    • Provides project team support for system wide participation in group purchasing organizations through The Resource Group and Medxcel’s Supply Chain team
    • Actively research and study new developments in healthcare facilities for possible incorporation
    • Collaborate with the Medxcel Energy and Ascension Environmental Stewardship Program as necessary to align engineering standards
    • Maintains dependable relationships with the customers of Medxcel PDC, including System Office associates, Health Ministries, and external vendors



    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related field required.
    • Master's degree preferred.


    • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is preferred, licensure not required.
    • LEED AP specialty, CEM, BEMP, or similar industry credentials preferred.
    • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)


    • 5+ years’ significant engineering project experience required.
    • Working knowledge of building automation controls required.
    • 7+ years experience preferred.
    • Healthcare experience preferred.
    • Experience in building commissioning is preferred.


    • Demonstrated technical proficiency in design, layout, and analysis of forced-air, VAV, air handling units, and direct-digital-control systems, plumbing systems, and equipment.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders. 
    • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects that are strategic in nature and national in scope. 
    • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to execute projects on time and on budget. 
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills. 
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. 
    • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. 
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, MS Office Suite, Visio, and web technologies. 
    • Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards etc. and the impact on project activities.
    • Resilient, comfortable working through change and supporting change management.
    • Skilled at working with large data set to make informed decision.
    • Detail oriented and can work at large scale thinking.
    • Adapt to changing work assignments, priorities, and special projects.
