    The National Director, Construction holds responsibility for the creation, direction, organization, and administration of national construction portfolio management for Medxcel Planning, Design, and Construction at the assigned working location of Central Office - Indianapolis, IN. The Director will be expected to develop the program’s policy and procedures in accordance with established objective and initiatives. Facilities served include, but are not limited to, hospitals, medical and physician offices, senior care, and community health facilities.

    Responsibilities

    Operational Management:

     

    • Responsible for administrative, operational, and personnel issues including planning, staffing, quality assurance, productivity, and goal setting.
    • Strategically facilitates development, implementation, and evaluation of cohesive Medxcel construction operations.
    • Maintain external relations related to PDC, including government relations, local, State and Federal regulatory agencies, The Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (TJC), Department of Health, insurance carriers, and others as needed.
    • Possesses a thorough knowledge of construction processes, contracting, estimating techniques, commissioning and safety procedures as it relates to construction and renovation and the application of Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) and Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) in a healthcare setting.
    • Monitors quality of work life in the department and initiates changes when indicated. Establishes regular and effective employee communication mechanisms, provides opportunity for appropriate employee participation and input, and identifies and addresses work related problems.
    • Provides support to and solicits input from other directors, leaders, administrators, and physicians. Encourages and establishes a forum for quality improvement discussions, design, and implementation of ideas at all levels.
    • Manages capital budgets according to capital allocation and organizational guiding principles.
    • Maintains oversight for contract identification, execution, and compliance.
    • Develops, implements, measures, and communicates the metrics to monitor/improve delivery of project scope, schedule, and budget.

    Management:

     

    • Implement conceptual budget tools for capital budget development and update annually based on project data.
    • Oversee the interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; plan, assign, and direct work; complete performance appraisals; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
    • Create and deliver standard assessment, measurement, and reporting tools.
    • Collaborate with Medxcel leadership to coordinate customer communication (Medxcel One Voice).
    • Assist and support on-site leadership with identifying and implementing cost reduction opportunities.
    • Conduct periodic business reviews with customers.
    • Assist on-site management with ensuring the customer’s program understanding, customer satisfaction, strategic partnering, and continuous improvement efforts.
    • Develop and nurture key customer relationships to create a high degree of loyalty to Medxcel in addition to local operations.
    • Be visible and available to key customer leadership during frequent site visits.

    Coaching and Development:

     

    • Mentor Medxcel PDC associates across the nation with an emphasis on operational excellence, developing existing and future talent, mentoring and inspiring performance, and enabling on-site leaders to succeed.

    Qualifications

    Education:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or management required (or equivalent experience 15 years with no degree).
    • MBA or other graduate degree preferred.
    • Focus of study in construction management, engineering, or business.

    License/Certification:

     

    • Certified Healthcare Construction Certificate (CHC) certification preferred.

     

     

    Experience:

     

    • 10+ years’ experience in healthcare required.
    • Experience in developing construction programs required.
    • Experience managing a large portfolio of work required.
    • Travel – 50 - 75% (overnight required).
    • 15+ years’ experience in healthcare construction preferred.
