    The National Director of Design will be responsible for defining Medxcel’s approach to architecture, engineering, and interior design at the signed working location of the Medxcel Central Office in Indianapolis, IN The Director will create design standards and specifications and then review construction and design projects for compliance with those standards and specifications. The primary focus will be ensuring the overall effectiveness of facilities’ design and their alignment with the individual organization’s mission and strategy. The candidate and his or her team will model all aspects of professionalism with emphasis on establishing the system’s productive role in significant capital projects.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for direct supervision of interior design, engineering, and architecture staff
    • Create plans for the alignment of Medxcel with organizational branding and finish preferences.
    • Coordinate paint, carpet, and furnishings in a cohesive way across all ministries. Work with Facilities Management teams on painting, Project Managers on space planning, and site leadership on plans and timing
    • Coordinate a value based approach to engineering which meets the needs of both capital management and the operations function of the business
    • Ensure Medxcel PDC is adhering to design standards, while balancing space and design to manage the cost of the building
    • Update Medxcel PDC’s design standards quarterly and continuously review design and construction projects against those standards
    • Act as the primary liaison for all external professional service firms
    • Review applications for contracts and ensure all service firms meet Ascension standards on conduct, safety, and operating procedures
    • 25-50% travel required

    • Experience and proficiency with MS Office Suite 
    • Excellent leadership skills, including ability to manage associates in a matrix reporting structure   
    • Critical thinking skills – demonstrated ability to approach technical design and construction issues, identify alternative solutions, make recommendations, and present them in an easily understood manner
    • Decisive judgment – ability to assess situations or circumstances and draw sound and objective conclusions 
    • Accountability – ability to take responsibility for action and results 
    • Ability to delegate tasks, follow up on assigned tasks and report on progress of work  
    • Ability to train others on technical components, applicable regulations, and internal procedures 
    • Strong understanding of design methods and philosophies pertaining to healthcare facilities

    Qualifications

    Education:
               Minimum Required:
                   • Bachelor’s in architecture, engineering, or interior design
               Preferred:
                   • Master’s in business administration or other

     

    License/Certification:
               Preferred:
                  • AIA or PE

     

    Experience:
              Minimum Required:
                 • 10+ years of healthcare design experience
              Preferred:
                • 15+ years of healthcare design experience 
                • Experience managing associates in a matrix reporting structure
