    The Manager of Facilities Drawings is Medxcel’s multi-discipline subject matter expert and resource for the compliance of NFPA 101-Life Safety Code©, Federal, State, and local Fire and Life Safety regulatory requirements, as well as Accreditation Organizations: CMS, The Joint Commission, DNV, etc., as it pertains to Life Safety Drawings. The Manager will perform duties for Medxcel throughout the assigned working location of the Central Office - Indianapolis, IN. This position may travel 25-50% and may require some overnight stay. It also requires access to a major airport. The Manager will review and direct policy as needed to manage a library of facility drawings for maintaining life safety code compliance and other drawing requirements. In accordance with Medxcel’s needs, the Manager will work collaboratively with leadership and other departments, such as PDC, the Energy and Asset Management teams, Marketing, and Compliance to develop tactical solutions that align effective program management with Medxcel’s strategic corporate vision and changing compliance challenges. 

     

    The Manager will work with Medxcel’s Life Safety Code Specialists and site leaders in reviewing the life safety and architectural drawings for each facility to ensure accuracy and code compliance, including providing applicable changes to leadership. The Manager will manage and support a team of Life Safety Code CAD Technicians and act as a primary source of production-level CAD drawing quality control and file distribution.  The Manager provides expert consultation, education, and technical assistance to Medxcel’s operations, Ascension Ministry Facilities, and Commercial Facilities to ensure compliance with the Life Safety Code© and its referenced publications. The Manager will document all observations in a thorough, accurate manner utilizing applicable Medxcel technology and providing adequate indication of non-compliance where appropriate.

    Responsibilities

    Life Safety CAD/Drawing Library Administration

    • Direct system processes & policies for updating life safety, architectural, and other drawing types
    • Review Life Safety Drawings for accuracy and code compliance
    • Oversee the updating and modifying of existing life safety, architectural, and other drawing types as required for compliance based on communication and field updates from Medxcel’s Life Safety Code Specialists
    • Manage a process for managing Medxcel’s life safety and other drawing types to include Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing system drawings
    • Establish a process to ensure a seamless delivery of drawings to facilities
    • In-depth knowledge of Joint Commission Environment of Care standards, including NFPA 101 Life Safety Code© (2012 Edition) and the referenced publications associated with the Life Safety Code© requirements
    • Familiarity with the NFPA 101A Guide to Alternative Approaches to Life Safety Fire System Evaluation System process and program

     

    Operational Support Management 

    • When required, provide field support in updating life safety, architectural, and other drawing types
    • Provide drawings of required medium to field staff as necessary to support the assessment processes
    • Perform final review of updated life safety, architectural, and other drawing types for accuracy and code compliance
    • Communicate potential findings to Medxcel leadership for code compliance liability potential
    • Provide additional support to Medxcel compliance team in relation to Joint Commission support when required
    • Supervise a team of CAD Technicians to expedite the updating of life safety drawings in-house
    • Provide the technical knowledge and expertise required to streamline operations and allow the CAD support team to function at optimum efficiency
    • Oversee and direct BIM/CAD standards development, implementation, and enforcement
    • Coordinate necessary drawing changes with the team
    • Train and develop associates

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or Fire Science Technology
    • Master’s degree in related discipline preferred

     

    License/Certification:

    • NFPA Certified Life Safety Specialist (CLSS-HC) for Health Care Facility Managers certification OR the ability to obtain within 12 months from date of hire
    • AHA Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) or the ability to obtain certificate within 12 months from date of hire

              

    Experience:      

    • 8+ years of AutoCAD experience as it relates to the field of facility management or related discipline
    • 4+ years’ experience managing healthcare facility life safety drawings at a multi-facility or system level
    • Experience in managing CAD/BIM drawing libraries for multiple facilities and disciplines
    • Experience with oversized printer(s)/plotter(s) & scanner(s)
    • Experience in Life Safety Code© compliance activities                        
    • First-hand experience with CMS/TJC building tour and survey support at multiple facilities preferred
    • Experience with Autodesk REVIT preferred
    • Experience with CAFM software such as IBM Trirega© or Archibus© preferred
    • Experience in engineering, fire protection, building maintenance, building construction, architectural science, safety, or related preferred
    • Experience with the Joint Commission’s Physical Environment and CMS’s Conditions of Participation preferred
